Next, we have the two very similar Assault Rifles that are extremely popular, and almost symbolic of the Modern Warfare games.
In terms of technicalities, both the M4 and M16 are exactly the same, the only real difference being the 3-round burst fire of the M16 compared to the full automatic firing of the M4.
As with many of the MW2 Assault rifles, the recoil is not really a problem with either of these guns, but burst firing with the M4 will slightly increase your accuracy, and in turn your chances of racking up the kills. This need not be an issue with the M16, as it is burst fire anyway.
These guns are unlocked fairly early on, the M4 from the start, and the M16 later on at Level 40. The one issue that I have with these rifles is the iron sights. They very much impede sight, are ugly, and I personally find them one of the hardest to use without an optical attachment such as the red dot or holographic sight. You may want to try both and see which you prefer. Personally I enjoy using the holographic sight over the RDS, as it feels a bit more comfortable.
In terms of perks, I enjoy using bling, with a RDS/Holographic sight and a silencer attached to the weapon, with the standard stopping power pro and 3rd tier perk of your choice.
If you would prefer using scavenger, that is also a good option, as it provides unlimited longevity without the need to swap weapons. Range on this weapon is as good as any AR in the game, and can be used from close combat to borderline sniping. If you are a defensive minded player, then the ACOG scope attachment or thermal may be a viable option, but I have never felt the need to use these attachments.
All in all, I think it is up to you if you wish to hold a class slot with these guns, but I do not recommend having one for each, as they are essentially the same thing. It is mostly dependant on whether you refer burst or automating firing.
Hope this helps, and may the force be with you.

Knifing Guide for Modern Warfare 2
Ok. I will start with the knife.
The knife, in MW2, is one of the most valuable parts of your kit, and learning to use it well can be incredibly advantageous for anyone playing this game.
I went through an entire prestige tier using only a knife and my USP 45 handgun, which just goes to show how powerful it can actually be.
If you are wanting to shy away from focusing on using guns, and use your knife as essentially a primary weapon, I suggest the following setups:
For speed, use this knife build:
Primary:MP5k (or any other SMG/sniper if you want)
Secondary:USP 45 or Magnum
Equipment: Throwing Knife or Semtex
Perk 1: Marathon Pro
Perk 2: Lightweight Pro
Perk 3: Commando Pro
Deathstreak: Your choice (martyrdom probably offers the best option)
For what is called "Ghosting" (aiming to not be seen at all), use this knife build:
Primary:MP5k (or any other SMG/sniper if you want)
Secondary:USP 45 or Magnum
Equipment: Throwing Knife or Semtex
Perk 1: Marathon Pro
Perk 2: Cold Blooded Pro
Perk 3: Ninja Pro
Deathstreak: Your choice (martyrdom probably offers the best option)
Whether you wish to use tactical knife or not also depends on what you want. Using tactical knife allows you to more efficiently kill, which is very important, but I found that if you use the akimbo attachment for the USP's, the the animation is alot quicker anyway, and i tend to just use that.
Your choice out of these two builds (or any mixture of the two), entirely depends on how you want to play, with speed or invisibility. Using a sniper rifle as your primary will give you a ghillie suit if you think it would help. (Not to forget snipers have the mobility of any SMG).
I personally enjoy using a throwing knife, as killing with it is amazingly satisfying.
Hope this helped, and happy knifing
